I’ve been working on my animated web series, and submitted my bible and first episode to the Sundance New Voices Lab last month.
I figured out the story arc of the first season, and broke out it out into 6 episodes. I’m currently writing the scripts, but made a Gantt chart of all the tasks I need to work on. I hope I didn’t overlook anything.
So besides the writing, there’s art (characters, props, backgrounds), casting, recording the voice performances, storyboards, animatics, animation, editing, music, sound effects.
I wasn’t sure if it would be better to make one episode, release it, and then make more episodes, or make them all first before releasing. I decided it would be better to have them all finished before I start releasing them. I figured it would be easier to build viewership if I had them all and could release them quickly. And from a production perspective, it makes more sense to do all the voice recording at once, all the character designs, all the music, etc, for more consistency.
According to my very rough schedule, I won’t be done animating the first episode until October! That’s way too long, so I’ll have to figure out a way to get this done quicker. I want to use this to showcase my writing, so I’m willing make the animation simpler to speed up the production.
Even though that’s a crazy looking schedule, I’m really excited to work on this project!
