auditions for my short film

here are a few headshots of some of the actresses that came in to audition for jen. i was looking for a girl next door sort of look, but beyond that, i didn’t really have any preconceived notions as far as appearance goes.

update on my short film – you will meet a sexy stranger

i’m in the thick of pre-production on my short film, you will meet a sexy stranger.

this isn’t quite a movie poster, but it’s the cover photo for my movie’s facebook page.

CO-PRODUCER

i found a great co-producer to help me make my movie, leila ciszewski. she has experience as a producer, director, AD, and is also a photographer. www.leilacphotography.com

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

after looking through over a hundred reels, i found my DP! matt valentine worked as DP and camera operator on parks and rec, the office, dollhouse, and entourage, along with a bunch of other work including shorts, features, docs, and unscripted tv shows. he’s very experienced and very talented, and i’m thrilled to be working with him! here are some screenshots you might recognize:

i’m making a new short film – you will meet a sexy stranger

i’m really excited to have started preproduction on my 6th short film! i was too busy last year because of the workload from the nick fellowship, but now i’m not working and so i wanted to make good use of this time.

title:
you will meet a sexy stranger

logline:
a comedy about a guy, a girl, and a psychic.

here are the nuts and bolts:

  • 6 page script
  • 3 characters
  • 1 location
  • 1 day shoot.

CAST

i want to work with SAG actors, so i have to become a SAG signatory. there’s a lot of paperwork involved, but working with SAG gives me a much bigger pool of talent to draw from.

luckily, i already have an actor for my movie, tw leshner. he’s been in a bunch of commercials, including this one for tmobile (i will keep him right side up in my movie.)

2011 year in review, goals for 2012

2011 was an interesting year. i finished up the nick fellowship, which was an amazing experience. i learned a lot, met great people, and wrote a bunch of solid scripts. as great as the experience was, it didn’t lead to a job, so the end of the year after the fellowship was rather depressing. i’m hoping 2012 leads to some sort of breakthrough.
here were my top 3 goals for 2011:

  1. get staffed on a show after the fellowship.
NO. this didn’t happen. not even close. i also didn’t get an agent, and didn’t get into another writing program (although i did make it past the first round of disney). sigh.
  2. write a pilot script.
YES. i finally wrote my first pilot! i’m already working on my second.
  3. make a web series or short film.
SORT OF. i didn’t shoot anything, but i did finish the script for a live action short, so i count that as half.

so out of my 3 goals, i accomplished 1.5. not so great.

mid year creative review 2011

i like to make lists and track my progress with things. here’s what i’ve done in the first 6 months of the year. i’m only counting things that i finished, because starting something and not finishing it isn’t an accomplishment.

  • finished my community spec that i started in dec 2010.
  • wrote a spec for the nick show, robot & monster.
  • wrote a spec for parks and rec.
  • took an improv class at ucb.

if i wasn’t in the nick fellowship, i probably would have written 1 spec in the same amount of time.

here were my top 3 goals for 2011:

  1. get staffed on a show after the fellowship.
  2. write a pilot script.
  3. make a web series or animated short film.

2010 year in review, and my goals for 2011

i like to make lists and i always have goals.  i write them down and track my progress regularly. here were my top 3 goals for 2010:

  1. get into a writing fellowship, or get representation (an agent or manager).
ACHIEVED! i got into the nickelodeon writing fellowship on my 2nd try, after having made it all the way as a finalist the year before. this one goal is not just something that was significant for me this year, but it was a life changing event.
  2. make a web series or short film.
ACHIEVED! i made a short film after my script was one of the ones selected for the duke city shootout. it was an amazing experience and i met a lot of great people out in albuquerque.
  3. write a pilot sitcom script.
NO i had a concept and the characters figured out, but didn’t get to actually write the script.

duke city shootout: day 1 – arrival

i flew into albuquerque, new mexico, and was kindly picked up by my 2nd 2nd AD. we went straight to marcia, my producer’s, house. i met her and my 1st AD, then walked down the street to the location where we’re going to shoot the first night. there i met my DP, and the production designer and his crew as they were dressing the set. i had seen photos and videos of the location but it was nice to finally step foot inside and walk around the space. the DP and i figured out how to do the blocking upstairs, and discussed with the production designer how to make some changes to make the blocking work better.
